Have you noticed how beautiful the leaves are this year? I have found myself especially attentive to the rich variety of colors that together make for one amazing landscape after another. I’ve been so impressed by this beauty that I’m quite sure my children are tired of hearing me draw attention to yet another tree that has changed color in our neighborhood. I don’t know, maybe they are always this beautiful and I have just been too busy to notice. This year, however I am drawn to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the change in seasons.
The subtle changes in temperature and scenery remind me that there is a rhythm to life. Creation is a continual process in which life and death and labor and rest each have their place. Losing sight of such rhtyhm is a constant struggle for each one of us. Yet, when we take the time to stop and take note, we find that we too are a part of the flow of creation. We find that “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). We find that there is a time to work hard, a time to rest, a time to celebrate, a time to mourn, a time to fight and a time to let go.
Soon the leaves will all fall from the trees and the rich colors of Fall will give way to the bleakness of winter. Yet, we can take heart in knowing that there is indeed a time for everything.
Peace,
Susan

Is it just me or do the days and weeks just fly by? If you are anything like me, it seems as though the days, weeks and months go so fast that there is never enough time to do all that we want (and need) to do. There really is no time to waste and there are several reasons why this idea has hit home to me in recent days… <!–[endif]–>
First, it is hard for me to believe that the time to elect our new government officials is upon us. I remember feeling ill equipped to make informed decisions in the last election and swearing that I would do more intentional learning about the major issues confronting our country’s leaders. And now, here we are and the time to cast our votes is almost here. As followers of Christ, we have a particular interest in how our ethical concerns are addressed by government. Beginning this Sunday, September 7th, PBC will be launching a “Faith & Citizenship” sermon series that will help us consider how scripture can help guide our decisions. These nonpartisan sermons will take place during our 11:00 am worship service and will be followed by a time of informal dialogue in our fellowship hall. For more detailed information and a listing of sermon topics please see Upcoming Events at http://www.peachtreebaptist.net/news/upcoming/
Another reminder that there is no time to waste came as I realized that this Sunday marks the beginning of another year of our International Program. While most of us take our communication skills for granted, there are many in our community that do not know enough English to perform basic daily activities. There’s no time to waste in helping our neighbors to learn conversational English in order to improve their quality of life. Join Allison Hicks, our International Program Director this Sunday from 4-6 pm for a volunteer meeting in the parlor (2nd floor). Come learn more about how you can be involved in this important ministry.
Finally, there is no time to waste in being the body of Christ in this community. We will gather this Sunday evening at 6 pm in our fellowship hall for a Church Conference and Ice-cream Social. These meetings are important times for all of us to hear and discuss the plans and dreams for Peachtree’s future ministry in this place. There’s no time to waste in being a part of this critical time in the life of our church. <!–[endif]–>
Hope to see you Sunday,
Susan

As we seek to grow into the church God desires for us to be we engage in many enriching activities. As a body of believers we grow spiritually through the community experiences of worship, fellowship and service. Another important avenue for spiritual growth and community building is the shared experience of study and devotion. As part of our continually expanding family and children’s group we are initiating a Sunday morning Bible study group for the parents of young children. The class’ target group is those parents that have children from infancy through the completion of middle school. It will be the intention of the class to foster spiritual growth through study, fellowship, service and worship. The new class will begin on August 10th. The class will initially participate in a six week series from ethicsdaily.com entitled “Genesis: The Creation of Relationships.” It is our desire that this class will be the foundation for relationships that both strengthen and expand the family ministries of Peachtree. There will be engaging opportunities for children of all ages during the Sunday school hour so that Peachtree’s children encounter positive faith building experiences while parents are free to commit to the new class.
I am excited about the possibilities that await Peachtree and its families as a result of this class. I hope that this class and its community of parents will be a valuable addition to Peachtree’s ministry and witness.
Peace, Clayton

It’s hard to believe that it has been almost a year since we began our Faith and the Environment series. It was at that time that we all became increasingly aware of our responsibility to care for the earth by being better stewards of its resources. I was reminded of this responsibility recently as we began preparing to move into our new home. The amount of “stuff” we have accumulated in only 2 years is unbelievable! As I filled several bags with trash, I could not help but feel guilty over how much unnecessary garbage we had created from our excess. It was a fresh reminder of how caring for the environment involves a deep and continuous level of commitment.
I was also reminded of this responsibility as I read an article about our church’s response to environmental issues in The Sierra Club’s report on “Faith in Action” (http://www.sierraclub.org/partnerships/faith/report2008/). The article features our church’s commitment to environmental issues and the initiatives brought forth by the “Green Team.” If you haven’t seen it, check out the link above. Maybe you too will be reminded of this continuous call to care for God’s Creation.
Hope to see you Sunday,
Susan

Yea… School’s Out for the Summer! This means it is a wonderful time for activities for children and youth. The most immediate children’s activity will be a summer long Vacation Bible School. Bible school will be held every Wednesday beginning June 4th from 7-8 pm. All children ages 3 (as of June 1)through those who’ve completed 5th grade are welcome. The curriculum is a beach theme entitled “Surfing Through the Scriptures.” Please let me know if you desire nursery during this time. The major components of the program will be Bible/Story time, crafts, recreation and missions. On June 4th we will kick off the summer with a beach party which will include, among other things, the making of theme T-shirts that the children can wear each week. Parents are encouraged to attend the kick-off party. Even if your child is unable to attend every week the experience of individual weeks will still be meaningful.
Interested in learning more about Vacation Bible School or Peachtree’s Children’s Ministry? Contact the newest member of our pastoral staff, Clayton Davis, Associate Pastor Resident, Minister to Children and Families at clayton@peachtreebaptist.net.
See you this Summer!

Our Holy Week activities began last Sunday with our Palm Sunday celebration. We hope that you will join us on Thursday, March 20th for our Maundy Thursday service at 7 pm in our Sanctuary. Our interns will be leading us in worship as we remember Christ’s last night with his disciples. We will contemplate Christ’s example of service and devotion as we pray and participate in hand washing. We will receive communion together as Jesus did with his closest followers and friends.
On Friday night, March 21st at 7 pm the Sanctuary Choir will sing “Requiem” by John Rutter. This beautiful work offers opportunity for us to contemplate Christ’s sacrifice for us and our relationship with him as people seeking forgiveness, redemption and hope. Join us on Easter Sunday morning as we celebrate together Christ’s resurrection.
Come and worship with us!
LeAnn
