A Time for Everything

Date November 11, 2008

Have you noticed how beautiful the leaves are this year?  I have found myself especially attentive to the rich variety of colors that together make for one amazing landscape after another.  I’ve been so impressed by this beauty that I’m quite sure my children are tired of hearing me draw attention to yet another tree that has changed color in our neighborhood.  I don’t know, maybe they are always this beautiful and I have just been too busy to notice.  This year, however I am drawn to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the change in seasons.

The subtle changes in temperature and scenery remind me that there is a rhythm to life.  Creation is a continual process in which life and death and labor and rest each have their place.  Losing sight of such rhtyhm is a constant struggle for each one of us.  Yet, when we take the time to stop and take note, we find that we too are a part of the flow of creation.  We find that “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).  We find that there is a time to work hard, a time to rest, a time to celebrate, a time to mourn, a time to fight and a time to let go.

Soon the leaves will all fall from the trees and the rich colors of Fall will give way to the bleakness of winter. Yet, we can take heart in knowing that there is indeed a time for everything.

Peace,

Susan
