Faith and the Environment Revisited
January 27, 2008
It’s hard to believe that it has been almost a year since we began our Faith and the Environment series. It was at that time that we all became increasingly aware of our responsibility to care for the earth by being better stewards of its resources. I was reminded of this responsibility recently as we began preparing to move into our new home. The amount of “stuff” we have accumulated in only 2 years is unbelievable! As I filled several bags with trash, I could not help but feel guilty over how much unnecessary garbage we had created from our excess. It was a fresh reminder of how caring for the environment involves a deep and continuous level of commitment.
I was also reminded of this responsibility as I read an article about our church’s response to environmental issues in The Sierra Club’s report on “Faith in Action.” The article features our church’s commitment to environmental issues and the initiatives brought forth by the “Green Team.” If you haven’t seen it, check out the link above. Maybe you too will be reminded of this continuous call to care for God’s Creation.
Hope to see you Sunday,
Susan
